The 6th Grade RENS team, led by Coach Steve Harris, played up in the 7th grade tournament bracket at the Columbus Weekend Challenge in Cresskill, NJ and marched through the competition to claim their first tournament championship of the season. It was a complete team effort throughout as strong guard play and excellent rebounding on both sides of the floor led the team.

6th Grade WINS AAU NATIONAL SILVER
7/25/14 - 09:45 AM

The team started the Classic bracket with just five players after two had to leave at the end of the weekend. Mixed emotions surfaced, but Coach Green and Coach Kenny rallied the boys. Supported by the parents in the bleachers who cheered their hearts and voices out, the Rens
excellent coaching and sheer will led to
?a victory

against Expressions Elite
?, 58 to 51?!
The five had little time to rest, though, facing
Game 6 that afternoon. Smart coaching, drive and focus brought the
Rens another W beating
the Academy Prep Hawks?
? 54 to 47, moving the team to the semis against
 the New Birth Warriors
?Helped by parents' and grandparents' cheers, the now anointed FAB 5 played their hearts out earning them a berth in
the championship game just an hour later against the 757 Kimgs.

With little rest at all, the Rens rose to the occasion and played at the top of their game,
Micah Coates hitting several 3 pointers, Max Grossman dominating the boards and scoring some big man shots, Avery Lauron going to the basket with fast moves that no one could defend, and Jonathan Hahami scoring a critical 3 that lifted the team. Point guard Majesty Johnson not only created scoring opportunities but scored several as well. With a few minutes left, though, fatigue set in and the Rens were struggling. Finding themselves down, Coach Green and Coach Kenny refused to give in. They settled the players and gave them the confidence to play at the level at which they were capable and brought them final victory. Excellent coaching, determination, smart plays, tough defense and total belief led the Rens to capture the Classic bracket with only five players. Credits to Charles Lovett and Xavier Green for their contributions, especially in games 3 and 4, that helped pave the way. This is truly one for the books!

Congratulations Rens!!!?

RENS 12U boys have standout weekend
1/24/14 - 04:16 PM

Last weekend, Coach Dan Klores' 6th grade 12U team won five of their six games in metropolitan area tournaments and leagues traveling to and from the Queens College based PAT to the House of Sports in Weschester. At the PAT, the RENS defeated the King Street Kings and Milbank before clobbering New Heights in the quarterfinals. On Sunday, however, they lost to a tougher minded Gauchos team in the semis. 'The truth is,' said Coach Klores,' they wanted it more than us so we have a lot of work to do in terms of the kids 'listening' and 'implementing.' We'll get there." The RENS destroyed two 7th and 8th grade teams at the HOS Saturday and Sunday nights. 'We need to play up and play TOGETHER. People complicate the game, but this group is of the age to learn the right lessons."

'The kids played hard, they played together and they played unselfishly,' said Klores, 'so we were pleased especially considering they haven't really  had more than one or two full practices.' .....the RENS 12 year old group will now move up and play in the 7th grade division, both at the House of Sports and in the Riverbank League, beginning next weekend....

Rens 12U Sixth Graders Finish a Great Season at Nationals
7/29/13 - 12:39 PM

Coach Stephen Harris' 6th grade Rens won five of their seven games in their come-to-be-expected atypically tough fashion at Boo Williams in Hampton, Virginia, last week at the AAU DI Nationals. The Rens swept their pool, going 3-0, winning each close battle by fewer than six points, besting Boston's Team Nelson and Expressions, as well as Fayetteville Elite. Moving into the Sweet Sixteen, they defeated Tennessee Legends, before falling to the eventual National Champs, the Carolina Preps out of Greensboro. In the consolation bracket, the quintet went 1-1. "We had a great tournament," said Rens founder Dan Klores. "This group of kids never ever gave up. The coaches and parents were remarkably together. There is no doubt this team will continue to improve and become a very, very serious national contender next year." Coach Harris said, "I'm so proud of this team. They are New York through and through -- tough minded and they never back down."

12U Rens Rule at DC Assault Tourney
5/21/13 - 10:52 AM

The 6th grade Rens made their trip to Maryland last weekend more than worthwhile when they brought home the gold at the DC Assault Classic. They made it out of pool play 3-0, successively pouncing Arlington 51 – 18, host team DC Assault 55 – 44, and MD Running Rebels 49 – 32. Playing as a true team, the Rens then ran through Team Takeover in the semis. Vicious competitors home team Maryland’s Finest were sure they had the Rens beat when they went up by 8 with less than a minute and a half to go. But the relentless Rens just would not go down without a fight, pushing through to the very end to pick up the 58 – 55 win. Congrats to coach Steve Harris and his entire coaching team on a major victory. This weekend, the team travels to Neptune, NJ, for the Basketball Spotlight Memorial Day Classic.

5/8/13 - 10:57 AM

The tough-as-nails 12U Rens were the “Best of the East” at last weekend’s PAT Invitational tournament of the same name. There was simply no competition for Coach Steve Harris’ squad who has worked really hard and it shows. The 12U Rens play like a team and pull for each other both on and off the court. Next up, they travel to DC next weekend for the DC Assault Classic.

12U Rens Win Two Championships In One Day!
4/23/13 - 04:44 PM

Steve Harris’ 12U Rens Win Playaz Spring Fling

Coach Steve Harris’ tough-minded 6th grade quintet proved their mettle last weekend, capturing the championship in the Playaz Spring Fling Tournament in Paterson, New Jersey, whipping the Westchester Gauchos 44 – 30 after clobbering New Heights in the semis. Later that Sunday, the Rens traveled to the Bronx to win the Riverside tournament, clipping SCAN by nine, after overcoming a three-point half time deficit, and then beating New Heights in the chip for the second time in just a few hours. Congrats to Rens Assistant Coach Hector Almodovar (who managed to make it to New Jersey) and his wife Corinthia on the birth of eight pound six ounce Carmelo Anthony Almodovar born late Thursday night to thrilled older brothers Hector and Amare. Coach Billy Council’s veteran 13U 7th grade team made it all the way to the finals of the Playaz tourney before bowing to the host squad in the chip.

Speaking of Carmelo, the Rens super 14U team was the special guests of NY Knicks management last night at the team’s regular season finale against the Hawks. Close friends of the Rens, Knicks honchos provided two adjoining suites for 24 players and parents.

Both the 7th and 8th grade squads are gearing up to travel to Cleveland next weekend to compete in the King James Shooting Stars Classic.
