NYC Legend Craig "Kat" Keyes Joins Program

The Rens proudly announced today the addition of two new boys grade school teams. Legendary  coach Craig "Kat" Keyes has brought his highly competitive 3rd and 4th grade NY Panthers squads to the city's fastest-growing grassroots basketball program. Kat, who grew up in Springfield Garden, Queens, and works at Bayside High School, has been coaching youngsters for 45 years. A renowned "teacher of the game" who focuses on fundamentals and development, Kat has been with the Panthers since 1999. "My years with the Panthers were enjoyable, but the opportunity to put my kids in the encouraging and progressive family-like atmosphere of the Rens was too tempting to turn down," said Coach Kat. He added, "These guys have built something in two years that is the envy of all other programs. I am sure my players, coaches and parents will share my feelings." Rens founder Dan Klores said, "Kat's been at it since1972. He's a gentleman, a teacher and a coach who is universally respected. He perfectly fits our mission to recognize and assist community-based programs and leaders in the boros who can use a hand." Klores also noted that Kat's two built-in grade school teams, fill a program niche." Klores recognized Rens high school director Artie Cox who introduced Kat to the founder. "As usual," Klores extolled, "Artie was correct. Kat's kids play hard, look up and pass the ball."
