Rens HighSchool Teams Start Season with a BANG!

Coach CJ Council’s 15-year-old Rens won some big games in their initial week, beating the Brooklyn Badgers into submission by a score of 67 – 45 at the Playaz Spring Fling Tournament in Patterson, NJ. Later in the week, they bested a veteran King Street Kings team by 15 before falling to the hometown Playaz. Coach Artie Cox’s 17U quintet is also off to a great start.
Weekend Notes:
Coach Steve Harris’ 6th graders destroyed the once-prestigious Gauchos 56 – 35 in the Riverside League in the Bronx.
The 14U Rens, helmed by Dan Klores, and winners of 36 of their last 37 contests, dominated the AAU District Qualifiers at Island Garden to decidedly qualify for the D1 Nationals to be held in Orlando in mid-July. On Saturday, the Rens defeated a feisty Black Mambas team in overtime as well as New Heights Westchester and the Riverside Hawks. On Sunday, they bested the Brooklyn Badgers by 16 and whipped Milbank 91 – 78. On Monday night, the Rens 14U team made it to the finals of the JV Division of the Island Garden Super League, beating the Mambas by 14. This was an especially huge victory for Assistant Coach Hector Almodovar who led the squad one to two years younger than the opposition.
Other Notes:
SAT prep tutoring classes will begin shortly spearheaded by the faculty of St. Francis College in Brooklyn.
Rens first gala dinner to be held October 9th in Manhattan.
